Projects > The Gypsy Girl, 2004
Gypsy Journey, 1920-2016 The beginning of the “journey” In 1949, my mother took me from Rehovot to Tel Aviv for a photo, on Purim 1949, dressed me in what looked like gypsy clothes, and this is how I was photographed. The Gypsy “journey” unfolded for years when I held the photograph and it always took me to different realms, far from reality. The journey allegedly accumulated memories as time passed, until in 2004 at the Lodz/Poland Biennale a large installation was presented that included the picture of the “Gypsy Girl” and her life story including figures that are ostensibly part of the girl’s life.
